All are gulty all are innocent; fall of the damned, after Rubens

A falling cascade of humanoid bodies, but who are the damned? For Rubens  they clearly include the lustful and the gluttonous as well as persons of religion. Other sins are perhaps less easily demonstrated.

But the damned today, when the seven deadlies have lost their immediacy, who are they?

We are bound by the inherent, perverse incentives of our complex world. A world ruled by profit which is narrowly calculated, through ignorance, self-interest or fear.  The consequences are where we now find ourselves. The calculations were too narrow, too short-term, too exclusive, the full costs were not even guessed at, or considered. To see and understand what changes are needed to make amends lies beyond the power of individuals. And so, as we fail, we watch our earth’s environments degrade, the shelter of our atmosphere increasingly blighted. We are all guilty, all innocent, all damned.

This torrent of forms was made for an exhibition to be held in Bristol in March, but t’was not to be. They did however enjoy and outing to Hay-on-Wye in July at Ty Tân Art, in All Fall Down, with paintings by Menna Angharad.
