Photographs – Electricity substations of Stoke-on-Trent
Actually they dont seem to be that random – I have to make an inventory of substations, they seem architecturally interesting
These are, from the top: Belmont Road, Eagle Street and Campell Road. The photo of Eagle Street was taken in March 2008.
This is the nasty tin shed which has replaced the grand substation in Eagle Street.

Kingsway A very cute substation, it has the arms of Stoke-0n-Trent above its door.

Trubshaw Cross
And that is most of the substations I have photographed in Stole-on-Trent, there are certainly lots more, particularly in the north of they city, which I havent yet found (or looked for).

Neat writing, will visit once more..
Thanks!! the ‘linkbucks’ is a total pain – blocks yr site before I can look at it.
Hiya. You are speaking my language. I am really interested in substations and have loads of diagrams that show where they are. There are loads more to see. I live in the Meir area and there are loads to see and photographs. If you send me your email, ill take loads of different substations for you, as i do that normally, but youll have to wait til around august time as thats when i get my new camera. and be patient, im only thirteen
Wonderful photos – I’m planning on embarking on a similar project in East London – they are beguiling features in the landscape
Good stuff, they are underappreciated and need your attention. The more people notice how interesting and individual they are them more they will be valued and not just demolished without a thought.
I found these pics rather interesting considering the unusual choice of subject, keep up the good work
Hi really liked the pics – am planning to do a similar photography project around Newcastle upon Tyne. I love to record things that most people pass without a second glance.Nice work!
The more people notice the discrete charms of our architectural suroundings the better their chance of surviving!! Have a great time
Great website! I started to notice some of these around so decided to google to see if I can find more and lo, there was this page. I’ll be putting a substation photo up on my blog every now and again, the first went up today (actually one you don’t have, on High Street, Sandyford) and I gave your page a little mention: http://www.originaltake.com/2011/03/thursday-3rd-march-2011.html
Thanks Sarah!
very nice site and a good idea for a project too. Im not in Stoke at the moment and have realised what special buildings the sub-sations of Stoke-on-Trent are. In Bristol Ive found four so far; but they arent bad looking.
